The Wolves are Coming!
After the COVID-19 pandemic landed in the United States in January 2020, and cases of infections and deaths became more widespread, State Governors began invoking emergency powers to contain the spread. In Illinois, Gov. Pritzker issued a series of Executive Orders. These closed schools, stadiums, churches and non-essential businesses, limited the size of public gatherings and promoted the use of face masks.
Many workers moved from office settings to work from home. Many others were furloughed or lost their jobs entirely. Athletes and entertainers, along with bartenders and servers became idle. Although some have returned to work, the recent surge in infections may send them back home. The Governor ordered temporary moratoriums on evictions, foreclosures and garnishments. But most of these stays have ended.
Bill collectors on the phone. Process Servers at the door.
We can expect that many people who have defaulted in their rent, mortgage payments, car payments, credit cards and utilities are going to be in trouble. They will soon face aggressive collectors and lawsuits seeking money judgments and seizures of property, including homes and vehicles. This will lead not only to loss of money and possessions, but unhealthy anxiety and stress.
